Notes from the Road: Harvests of Hope California Release
Los Angeles, California - October 2019
We had the honor to screen Harvests of Hope: California at the Awareness Film Festival in October. This is the third award for this title, and the tenth for the project as a whole.
We are honored to have been included and inspired by other filmmakers, activists, and leaders! We saw some great films like WE ARE MAUNA KEA, Herringbone, One World – The Ocean of Presence, and Chasing the Present.
Going back to Cali, the sunset is the stuff of postcards. This time there’s a subtle difference though. The smell of smoke is faint but evident even down by the sea.
California is on fire - again.
I turned on the news to hear reports of another fire. Named after the community it was destroying, it was, “13% contained.” 13% contained! That didn’t sound very contained at all! Phrased differently, that’s 87% UNcontained. The blase reporting made it feel commonplace. Perhaps it is now the Californians’ reality.
Droughts, hurricanes, fires, and floods. Is this the new normal? Yes, the evidence is there. Among the questions now is what happens to those internally displaced US citizens who have lost their homes and livelihoods? Life for the rest of us seems to go on unaffected despite all this. But should life go on as normal - in spite of this? No.
Adapt. Overcome. Be resilient. This is what we must do. That is our message. Each person. Each neighborhood. Each community, county, and state. There are reasons for hope. We see it every day. Let us show you those stories.
What can you do? Help us sow some seeds!
We are working to create a robust platform with information for educators, community engagement tools, and content-rich multimedia to help inspire the heart and reshape the mind... with ways that you can make a difference in your home too!
What started as a single documentary evolved into a series and now an educational platform. Because the issues at hand are much larger, our vision had to grow.
Now we need your help more than ever to realize it.
Help us host a screening event in your community.
Donate $1! Your donation will show us you care and will raise our spirits exponentially :-)
Shucks, for $2.99 you can even stream Harvests of Hope: California 24 hours a day, 366 days a leap year!
Big supports can help even more with our limited-edition California poster or mug.
It started with a seed - an idea. Six years later - after hundreds of sleepless nights, thousands of hours of work, and tens of thousands of dollars - we have ten different accolades to show we’re on the right track.
Thank you to those who have supported us so far along the way. Your belief in us helped to keep us going through those times we questioned whether it was all worth it.
